A beer in Barcelona costs €2.50 to €5 in a normal bar and €6 to €10 inside a nightclub in 2026. A caña, a small draught beer of about 200 ml, is the cheapest order. Prices are highest on La Rambla and the beachfront and drop a few streets into the Gothic Quarter, Raval or Gràcia.
Prices checked October 2026. We update this page when they change.
The short version
- Bar: €2.50 to €5. Club: €6 to €10. Supermarket can: under €1.
- Order a caña. It’s the smallest draught beer and the cheapest thing on the menu.
- Location sets the price more than the beer does. Two streets back from La Rambla, the same order costs less.
- Shops can’t sell alcohol after 23:00, and drinking in the street is fined €100 to €600.
- Beer is the cheap part of a night out. The club door and club drinks are where the money goes.
How much is a beer in Barcelona in 2026?
It depends almost entirely on where you drink it. The same lager costs under €1 from a supermarket shelf, a few euros in a bar and up to €10 in a club.
| Where | Typical price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Supermarket | Under €1 | A 330 ml can. Multipacks work out at about €0.70 a can |
| Bar, side street | From €2.50 | A caña at the bar |
| Bar, main square or seafront | Up to €5 | The same beer with a view, often with a terrace surcharge |
| Nightclub | €6 to €10 | A bottle or a plastic cup |
The two local lagers are Estrella Damm and Moritz, both Barcelona brands. One or the other is on tap in almost every bar, and they’re usually the cheapest beers on the list.
What should you order? Caña, mediana and the rest
Order a caña if you want the cheapest beer. Sizes in Spain have their own names, and asking for “a beer” usually gets you whichever one the bar would rather sell.
| Order | What arrives | When to order it |
|---|---|---|
| Caña | A small draught beer, about 200 ml | Always the cheapest. Stays cold to the last sip |
| Quinto | A small bottle, 200 ml | Where there’s nothing on tap |
| Mediana | A standard bottle, 330 ml | Costs more than a caña |
| Jarra | A large draught beer, around half a litre | The closest thing to a pint |
| Clara | Draught beer mixed with lemon soda | Hot afternoons |
Locals drink cañas for a reason other than price. A small beer stays cold, and you order another when you want one.
Why does the same beer cost twice as much on La Rambla?
Because you’re paying for the seat. Bars on La Rambla, Plaça Reial and the seafront charge the top of the range, and many add a surcharge for terrace tables on top of that. The beer is identical.
Three habits keep the price down:
- Find the price list before you sit. If the menu has two columns, one is for the bar and one is for the terrace.
- Stand at the bar. It’s normal here, and it’s the lower price.
- Walk two streets. The side streets of the Gothic Quarter, Raval and Gràcia are where the €2.50 beers are.
How much is a beer in a Barcelona nightclub?
A beer inside a Barcelona club costs €6 to €10, about double the bar price. A spirit and mixer costs €12 to €20. That gap is the reason nights here start in bars: clubs open around midnight but stay quiet until about 01:30, so nobody is in a hurry to start paying club prices.
The beer isn’t what makes a night expensive, though. Entry at the door is €15 to €25, which is more than most people spend on beer all evening. Our price list for a full night out in Barcelona shows where the money goes.
The door is the expensive part. Our ticket covers two bars and club entry for €9.99, the cheapest pub crawl in Barcelona. Drinks aren’t included and the club changes from night to night.
Book for €9.99Can you buy beer in a supermarket and drink it outside?
You can buy it, but you can’t drink it in the street. Drinking alcohol in public is banned in Barcelona and fined €100 to €600 under the city ordinance in force since February 2026. That includes the beach, the squares and the walk between bars.
Two more rules catch visitors out:
- Shops stop selling alcohol at 23:00. If you want supermarket beer for your hostel or apartment, buy it before then.
- Cans from street sellers aren’t a loophole. You’re still drinking in the street, and the fine is the same.
The terrace of a licensed bar is fine. So is your hostel bar, which is often the cheapest legal place to start the evening.
How do you pay less for beer in Barcelona?
- Order cañas, not bottles.
- Stand at the bar and check the price list first.
- Stay off La Rambla, Plaça Reial and the seafront for anything other than the view.
- Do your drinking in bars and treat the club as the last stop. Whether a guided night is the cheaper way to get there is worked out in is a pub crawl worth it.
- Buy supermarket beer before 23:00 and drink it indoors.
If you’d rather not work out the route yourself, we meet every night at 22:30 at Red Garter Karaoke Bar, on the port side of the Gothic Quarter. The meeting point page has the map, and the Barcelona pub crawl page has tonight’s tickets.
