Barcelona’s metro runs until midnight from Sunday to Thursday, until 02:00 on Fridays and the night before public holidays, and all night on Saturdays. After that, NitBus night buses run until about 06:00, most of them through Plaça de Catalunya, and taxis charge a night rate of €1.66 per km plus a €2.80 start fee.
Timetables and fares checked October 2026 against TMB and AMB.
The short version
- Saturday is the only night the metro runs straight through.
- The metro reopens at 05:00 every day. If you stay until the club closes, the first train is often already running.
- NitBus lines run from about 22:00 to 06:00, and all but one stop at Plaça de Catalunya.
- A night taxi costs €2.80 plus €1.66 per km. Most rides from the clubs to the centre come to about €8 to €10.
- Decide how you’re getting home before you go out, not at 04:00 with 3% battery.
What time does the Barcelona metro stop running?
The Barcelona metro stops at midnight from Sunday to Thursday and at 02:00 on Fridays, and it runs all night on Saturdays. It reopens at 05:00 every morning.
| Night | Metro runs until | Reopens |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday to Thursday | Midnight | 05:00 |
| Friday and the night before a public holiday | 02:00 | 05:00 |
| Saturday | All night | Doesn’t close |
| 23 June, 23 September and 31 December | All night | Doesn’t close |
| 24 December | 23:00 | 05:00 |
A single ticket costs €2.90. A T-casual gives you 10 journeys for €13, which is €1.30 a ride, but it’s a one-person card and can’t be shared between friends travelling together.
The detail most visitors miss is the reopening time. Clubs here close between 05:00 and 06:00. If you stay to the end, the metro is running again when you walk out, on any day of the week.
How does the NitBus work?
NitBus is Barcelona’s night bus network. Lines run from roughly 22:00 to 06:00, depending on the line, and every line except one stops at Plaça de Catalunya. That makes the square the place to change buses: get there, then take the line that goes to your part of town.
Line numbers start with N. Look up your route on the TMB or AMB app before you go out, while you still have battery and patience, and screenshot it. AMB runs the service and lists current fares and valid tickets on its site.
How much is a taxi at night in Barcelona?
A night taxi in Barcelona costs €2.80 to start plus €1.66 per km. That night tariff applies from 20:00 to 08:00 on weekdays and all day on Saturdays and public holidays.
| Distance | Meter estimate | Split four ways |
|---|---|---|
| 2 km | €6.12 | €1.53 each |
| 3 km | €7.78 | €1.95 each |
| 4 km | €9.44 | €2.36 each |
| 6 km | €12.76 | €3.19 each |
Three things to know:
- Licensed taxis are black and yellow. A green light on the roof means it’s free. Don’t get into anything else that offers you a ride outside a club.
- Special nights cost more. There’s a €4.60 supplement on a few nights of the year, including 31 December.
- Four people in a taxi often beats four metro tickets. A 3 km ride split four ways is under €2 each.
How do you get home from each club area?
Most nights out in Barcelona end in one of four places. These are the nearest metro stations to each.
| Where the night ends | Nearest metro | To Plaça de Catalunya |
|---|---|---|
| Beach clubs on Passeig Marítim: Opium, Shoko, Carpe Diem and Ku Barcelona (formerly Pacha) | Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica (L4) | Roughly 3 km. About €8 by taxi |
| Razzmatazz, Poblenou | Marina (L1) or Bogatell (L4) | Roughly 3 km. About €8 by taxi |
| Sala Apolo, Poble Sec | Paral·lel (L2, L3) | About half that distance. Walkable |
| Gothic Quarter and the port | Drassanes or Liceu (L3) | A 10 to 15 minute walk |
What’s the best way home on each night of the week?
- Sunday to Thursday. The metro has stopped by the time you leave any club. Take a NitBus via Plaça de Catalunya or split a taxi. If you stay until closing, the metro is back at 05:00.
- Friday. The metro runs until 02:00, which is about when clubs get busy, so it’s useful for getting there and not for getting back. Plan on a NitBus or taxi, or the 05:00 metro.
- Saturday. The metro runs all night. €2.90 gets you home whenever you leave.
Our night ends at a club, and you leave whenever you like. We start at 22:30 at Red Garter Karaoke Bar, two minutes from Drassanes metro. €9.99 covers two bars and club entry. Drinks aren’t included and the club changes from night to night.
Book for €9.99Is it safe to walk home at night in Barcelona?
Walking is fine on busy, well-lit streets, and plenty of people do it. The risk is theft, not violence: pickpockets and phone snatchers work the nightlife areas late at night. Keep your phone in a front pocket while you walk, stay on main streets even if the map shows a shortcut, and don’t stop to deal with strangers who approach you. If you’re alone and it’s a long way, take the taxi.
Getting home is one line in the budget. The rest is in our price list for a night out in Barcelona, and if the cost of the door is what you’re weighing up, we’ve done the sums on whether a pub crawl is worth the money. The meeting point page shows where we start, and you can book the Barcelona pub crawl for tonight from the homepage.
